Golfers from nine major airlines competed for tro phies in the Eighth Annual Raleigh/Durham Interline Golf Classic held August 14-16 at Foxfire Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, NC. Among the 288 par ticipants were 60 Piedmont employees, six of whom took home trophies. The Piedmont winners included: Tom Stancil. captain. CLT 3rd place, championship flight Chip Miller, agent, RDU 1st place, 1st flight Ken Reynolds, agent, DEN 2nd place, 1st flight Bob Savage, mechanic, ATL 3rd place, 1st flight Doug McCoy, agent, PBI 1st place, 2nd flight Ron Waterhouse, station manager, RDU 1st place, 7th flight In addition, Mark King, agent, RDU, won $25 in a closest-to-the-hole contest on a par 3. The 1987 tournament will be played at Foxfire Resort and Country Club the third week of August. John Desern, operations, RDU, is in charge of the event. * * * The Piedmont Ski Club will travel this season to Vail, Keystone, and Sun Valley and participate in the annual airline week at Snowmass. The club's first trip is set for January 12-16 to Vail. CO. The cost of $335 includes four nights’ lodging at the Antlers Condominiums (primarily one bedroom condos for two people, but some two bedroom and three bedroom condos are available): a three-day lift ticket good at Vail and Beaver Creek; a welcome party and wine and cheese party on the slopes; NASTAR Race; and awards banquet. A deposit of $100 is due October 15 with full payment by November 15. Keystone, CO, is the site of the club's second trip, scheduled for February 15-19. Skiers will stay at the Keystone Condominiums for four nights (two bedroom/ two bath condos for four); receive a three-day lift ticket which can be used at Keystone or Arapahoe Basin; participate in a welcome party, wine and cheese party on the slopes: NASTAR Race: and awards banquet. The cost is $250/person. A deposit of $100 is due by November 15 with full payment by January 1. Ski club members will travel to Sun Valley, ID, March 15-21. The cost is $320/person and includes six nights' lodging at condominiums in the village, a wine and cheese party on the slopes, and an awards ban quet. Each condo has two bedrooms/two baths for four people. A $100 deposit is due by December 15 with full payment by February 1. In addition to these trips, the annual airline week at Snowmass. CO, will be held December 4-14. Many Piedmont skiiers will be staying at the Mountain Cha let for $50/night, single or double. Reservations can be made by calling the Chalet at 303/923-3900. Joining the Piedmont Ski Club is simple. Just send your annual membership dues ($10/person and $15/family) to Dennis Rawls. The organization is open to all employees and their families. * * * The American Ski Association is offering employ ees SkiAmericards at a discount. The Gold cards are specially-priced at $18 for head of household and $13.50 for each additional family member, and the regular cards are $10 and $5, respectively. These cards offer discounts on lift tickets, lodging, equipment, rentals, dining, and lessons at 154 ski areas around the United States and Canada. In addition, Gold SkiAmericard holders will receive the 1986/87 Ski Directory. The offer is good until November 3. Leonfird Martin, senior vice president- passenger services, made the presentation. Blackmon retires after 26 years Will Blackmon has seen Piedmont grow first hand. When he joined the airline in 1950 as an agent at LEX. Piedmont was just two years old. That year. Piedmont carried a total of 123,958 passengers, a record for the young regional carrier. In August, when Black mon. vice president- properties and leases, retired, the airline was boarding over two million passengers a month. After a year as an agent at LEX. Blackmon was pro moted to traffic clerk and moved to headquarters in Winston-Salem. In 1952, he was promoted to manager- mail and cargo, and in 1957. to supervisor-ground operations. He became superintendent-ground operations in 1962 and served in this capacity until he became assistant vice president-ground operations in 1971, and vice president- ground operations in 1974. He was promoted to vice president-properties and leases, his position at the time of his retirement, in 1984. Blackmon may be retired but you can still see him often at Piedmont’s cor porate offices. He has agreed to do some consulting work for Piedmont in properties and leases. '86 THE BEST GETS BETTER. Hove friends wino love to ski? Our winter packages best ever Piedmont has joined together with seven different ski resorts to offer snow-skiing en thusiasts a variety of packages this winter. Ski packages are available to Breckenridge, Vail, Keystone, Copper Mountain, and Winter Park, all Colorado resorts. Ski/fly packages are also being offered to The Laurcntians near Montreal and to White Face Mountain (Lake Placid area), site of the 1980 Winter Olympics. Most packages are for five days and include round-trip airfare, accommodations in a de luxe condominium, lift tickets, and use of a car. "If you know someone who enjoys skiing, tell them about our programs,” Jim Sheats, director-agency sales and tour development, said. "Our packages are some of the best avail able anywhere, and employees can be a great asset by telling their friends about what we have to offer.” Brochures on our new ski packages are being distributed this fall. If you would like a copy, contact a sales office near you or the tour desk at any of our reservations centers. Special packages are also available to many other destinations we serve. Piedmont and Funway Holidays/Funjet are offering a variety of packages to resorts in Florida and California. In addition, we have a special pro motion through December 15 with the 13 Marriott Hotels in Florida, with the Ritz Carlton in Naples, and with resorts at Niag ara Falls. PI teams up with Coke Fifty million cans of Coke, which are being distributed to groceries in North and South Carolina, carry the Piedmont logo this fall. Piedmont and Coke are promoting the “Red, White & You Sweepstakes” in this two-state area for 12 weeks with radio and television ads as well as displays in groceries. Each week a drawing is held, and a trip for two is given away. The promotion will continue through November 14. Coke and Piedmont have also teamed up in the Northeast for a frequent buyer/flier promotion. When people purchase two-liter Cokes, they can register to win trips on Pied mont. Four hundred tickets—four to each winner—will be given away during a drawing on November 14. On October 2-5, Piedmont will help cele brate Disney World’s 15th birthday by par ticipating in special activities at the Florida park. Also in October, a special promotion will be going on in Florida to promote the first anniversary of The Piedmont Shuttle. TUps will be given away—including airfare, accommodations, and rental car—at each of the 12 Florida destinations we serve.
