c It seemed like the entire airport was watching the Pride of Pied mont gracefully touch down in Charlotte on May 21. Hundreds of people clustered around loading bridges, at win dows of concourses, and the ramp to see Piedmont's first 767-200— the first widebody in Piedmont's fleet—arrive from Boeing Field in Seattle. A fitting tribute was made to the new twinjet when Piedmont's restored DC-3, the first aircraft type we flew 39 years ago, escorted the widebody to Gate C2 where hundreds would soon tour the two flying machines. Employees proudly watched the procession as news media from area newspapers, television and radio stations recorded the his toric event. Many employees brought their own means of mark ing the occasion with home video and personal cameras. As the widebody taxied in and pulled up to the gate, the same words were heard again and again: “It's beautiful." One agent expressed the senti ments of many when he said, “Just look how far we've come. We're really big-time now." This month, the 767-200 takes Piedmont across the Atlantic to London, England—a milestone that could not have been accom plished without the hard work of employees throughout the com pany.
