been conducting fdrborne evaluation
of a fully operational TCAS system
since last March. This multi-million

PI receives two honors
Piedmont has received the first North
Carolina Department of TVansportation
Distinguished Aviation Service Award
for the company’s contributions to air
transportation in the state.
“The award recognizes Piedmont's
39 years of distinguished airline service
and 47 years of service to the general
aviation community,” James E. Har
rington, N.C. Department of TVanspor-
tation secretary, said. "Over the years,
Piedmont has established itself as a
benchmark in aviation, and we want to
honor such an achievement.’’
Joe Culler, president of the General
Aviation Group, and Jim Taylor, vice
president and general manager of GAG,
accepted the award at a banquet held
October 10 at GAG’s headquarters.
Piedmont has also received the pres
tigious PRO PATRIA Award, the top
award given in a state by the secretary
of defense to an employer of members
of the National Guard and Reserve, at
the group’s annual awards banquet in
November.
The award, which was presented to
Chairman Bill McGee, is given to no
more than one company in each state
annually. This year, there were over
400 nominations from North Carolina.
Major Andrew F. Hileman (CLT-based
first officer) nominated Piedmont for
the award.
The award symbolizes the patriotism
of the recipients, who have indicated
support of the national defense by
adopting personnel policies which
make it easier for employees to partici
pate in the National Guard and Reserve.
Marianne Raab, sales manager-
Canada, has been named the 1987 On
tario Carrier Representative of the Yesu'
by Agent Canada, a weekly travel and
tourism trade magazine. Raab received
the award at the 10th annual Canadian
travel and tourism industry awards
presentation November 14.
Awards are made on the basis of nomi
nations sent in by agents, suppliers and
carrier people from all over Canada. An
anonymous committee screens the nom
inations, and those selected are invited
to the annual dinner in Vancouver.
Piedmont serves two Canadian desti
nations, Ottawa and Montreal.
