Agreement reached with Eastern
for PHL gates, Canadian routes
USAir has announced that it has reached agreement with Eastern Air
Lines to acquire eight of Eastern’s gates and related ground facilities
at Philadelphia International Airport. The facilities agreement also
includes certain ticket counter and baggage handling space leased by
Continental Airlines.
In a separate transaction, USAir
agreed to acquire Eastern’s Philadel-
phia-Toronto and Philadelphia-
Montreal route authority. Purchase
price for the eight gates and related
facilities has been set at $70 million.
Price for the two Canadian route
authorities is $15 million.
The agreement involving the
purchase by USAir of the Eastern
gates and facilities is subject to
approval by the City of Philadelphia
and review by the Department of
Justice.
The route sale agreement is subject
to approval of the Department of
Transportation and the President of
the United States because it involves
the transfer of international authority.
Both agreements require court
approval due to the Eastern bank
ruptcy.
