PIEDMONT AIRLINES Winston-Salem, North Carolina WEEKLY TRAFFIC MEMORANDUM #9 September 4, 1948 le AIR EXPRESS “■ So far we have only had one complaint from the Express Company about our lag in forwarding Air Express» Remember—it is our job to see that all traffic is forwarded by means which will cause it to arrive at its final destination in the short est length of time» Please put yourself in the shipper's position, and give Air Express and Air Freight the best possible handling, 2, AIR PARCEL POST - The Air Traffic Conference has advised that the advertising material for the Air Parcel Post service has been delayed but that this literature will be dis= tributed as soon as possible, 3. AIRLINE TRIP INSURANCE (CHARTER FLIGHTS) - The following is an excerpt from Air Traffic Conference Bulletin No. 218s "Although there is no question but that the present policy covers charter flights, we have been asked by the underwriters to request all member air lines to issue instructions to each of their ticket offices that whenever possible not more than $5,000 of insurance be issued to any passenger who is flying with a group of others on a charter flight, unless full particu lars are submitted in advance to the head office of Associated Aviation Underwriters, 90 John Street, New York 7, New York - by wire, if necessary - and approval is given by that office for the insurance. It is not antici pated that approval will be withheld, but this will at least permit the underwriters to make special arrangements for the redistribution of the liability they assume," I feel that the above is self-explanatory; however, if you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me have them, 4o AIR FREIGHT TARIFF - Our Air Freight Tariff, C.A.B, No, 2, has been canceled as of October 1, By that date all stations should have received copies of the Air Cargo, Inc, Tariff in which our scale will be shown on Page 43« Therefore, on that date, you are requested to remove the entire Air Freight Tariff, C.A,B„ No, 2 from your present folder; however, you will retain the instructions for accomplishing the Air Freight papers, I have already received an advance copy of the Air Cargo, Inc, Tariff effective October 1, It looks very good except tlrat a competitive scale was left out between LEX-ROA, LEX-RIC, and lEX-ORF, The next revision will show these omissions. Important; Until such time as these competitive rates are shown, it will be necessary for us to charge a combination of the point-to-point rates. For example; Roanoke has a 30-lb, shipment for LEX to be carried on Fli^t 31 and 10, By combining ROA-CHW and CHW-LEX scale, you arrive at the Scale No. 5 which is the correct rate to charge. This is the same as EAL's rate, 5o All of you fellows are certainly to be congratulated on the excellent job which you are doing during this weekend. Vie all still have our fingers crossed, but this should be our best week since the beginning of operations. 305 passengers for the system on Friday is the record for one day so far. From the looks of our advance bookings on the 7thj we should come very close to breaking the record again, A mi^ty fine jobj
