M, Turner and Frank Edmondson, of Tarboro, W,.-W, Flye, of .Battleboro and Irvin G, Cherry { 5 brothers in service ) of Leggett, were placed on the. Board of Directors. A film on swine production was shown. The picture was made in N. C,, and presented by Lt, R. J. Reynolds, USKH, to the farmers of N.C. Local men, M. T, Ruffin, Doris Quin cy and Allen Harper,appeared in several scenes taken in Edgecombe. A prisoner-of-war camp has been established at Scotland Neck to help farmers with peanut harvesting. First assignments x^ere made on Sept, 19th to the follov/ing farmers: J. E, Fountain, Claude Etheridge, J. H. Satterthwaite, A. B. Bass, C-, T, Bottoms, V. E. Fountain, W, S, Claris & Sons, M. p, Edv;ards, 'Jr., William D. Moore W. B. Harper and Mrs. Emma E, V/eeks. Peanut crop reported good by those digging. First-bale of 19^^^ cotton sold .Sept.Ist, Competition among local cotton buyers ran price to 2^ . cents per r)ound with Dean Go 1:ton Go. being ;■ the successful bidder. This cotton was raised and sold by L, L,> Whitehurst. Prevailing market.price for middling cotton is 2l|- cents. Weed small but full of bolls,. Picking progressing slowly, . Capps, Route 2, Rocky Mt., West Edgecombe Club. ' Another .Home Demonstration Club was organiz ed last Thursday in the Powell's School community at the home of Misses Hazel and Jean G-off. The following officers were elected: 'President, Mrs. J. M. C,,. at State CollegeSept, 19th to 21st, Crop reports indicate the second largest tobacco crop on record. Only exceeded by the 1939 crop. Markets, are blocked with trucks standing in line all day to get tobacco on floor. The Posthumous Mariner's Medal has been awarded to Mrs, Graoo Gay Moore o.f this city in commemoration of “the death of her brother, Gaston Gay, who lost his life when his ship, the S. S.
