EDITOR’S CORNER Some guy once said, if you are going to do something important, you’ve got to have sand in your craw. Tliat is true whether you are tilhng the soil, working in the factory, arguing with your mother-in-law, or fighting a w'ar. You in the service continue to demonstrate that you have really got this sand along with you. You have demonstrated that our “decadent democracy” is likened to dynamite—perfectly harmless until you start foolin’ around with it. But once aroused all hell can’t hem it in. Our great commander-in-chief “has slipped away” but not before he passed on to you and all Americans the world pattern for an universal peace. You have all but reached the goal out lined by FDR and we hope that soon you will be safely returning to your home and your Amer ica which you have so proudly and valiantly defended and preserved. DEAR HUSBANDS: The Service Wives is dedicating its space in- H. F. N. this month to the Mothers of all those in service of our country. It is with the deepest love in our hearts that we bow in humble respect to those who have been and'are the inspi ration of us all at home. With their unfailing courage and faith, it is they, the Mothers, who have kept us strong. Tliey have borne, and are bearing, the real brunt of the war. Their’s is the real sacrifice and we, with love, salute them. YOUR WIVES. CHAPLAIN’S CORNER “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” Rom 8-37 (Read Rom. 8:31-39.> Today, as we work for victory and peace, we must come to understand what real victory is and how we can have it. It would be tragic for the world if we should w'in a militarj' victory and suffer defeat everywhere else along the line. The return of the armies, victorious over the foes of freedom, may make us think that we arc conquerors. But if we permit the same hatreds, the same prejudices, the same intolerances against w'hich we are fighting, then we ourselves shall be the conquered, not the conquerors. We may be as those who have won a battle and lost a war. The words of the Apostle in the lesson for today reveal the long and arduous but joyous spiritual climb which we must make if w'e are to be conquerors. And the secret of victory is in the words “through him that loved us.” The victory wdll come when we recognize Him as our leader and follow Him all the way. PRAYER Dear Saviour of men, save us from sin; strengthen us in our suffering; gird us in our weak ness; and guide us in Thij service. For Thij name’s sake. Amen. STAFF EDITOR: GEO.
