Young, Sr. Wonder if our summer visitors have noticed the recent little spots of beautification in and around the town of Highlands. Civic minded individuals and the newly organized Garden Club has been responsible for these improvements so sorely needed here. VJhen we disfigure our God given natural beauty of our highways by the erection of signs, we cannot, as individuals be civic minded. One of the most recent areas of beautification is just outside of Highlands on the Walhalla road. From a low^ unsightly spot Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Brooks are developing a beautiful garden to be enjoyed by all those appreciating beautifi-* cation and the spirit which has prompted this spot of beauty. Mrs. Brooks has the proverbial green thumb and she is not afraid to soil her hands! A true gardener! MISS MINNIE D. WARREN DIES IN WINSTON-SALEM The many friends of Miss Minnie D. Warren will regret to hear of her death in a Winston-Salem hospi tal early last Friday morning, July 16th. Funeral services for Miss V/arren were held last Saturday afternoon in Scarsdale, New York. Miss Warren has had a home in Highlands for forty-five years and was beloved by the people here. A brief memorial service v;as held Sunday morning at the Presbyterian Church during the regular worship hour. The Rev. Robert DuPree stated ’’that she will long be remembered for her faithfulness to attend the worship services of the church. After she had passed her three score and ten years she was known to have (Con*t. on page 5) RECENT BRIDE HONORED Mrs. Neville Wilson, the former Miss Kathleen Rogers, was honored with a miscellaneous shower on Fri day night of last week at the home of Mrs. Dewey Hopper with Mrs. Morris V/ilson as joint hostess. Sixty-eight friends were in cluded in the courtesy, bringing many useful gifts for the honoree. Mrs. Wilson was lovely in a light pink nylon dress.
