The Eleventh Annual Flower Show
was given this year in the new
school auditorium and was sponsored,
for the firjt time, by the Highlands
Garden Club, Around the sides of
the room were special exhibits and
entries in both the Arrangements and
Horticulture Sections, while in the
roped off center of the room were
tables set for informal entertaining
also coffee and small table arrange
ments. Here also were special ex
hibits featuring garden and flower
accessories from two gift shops, The
Ark Antique Shop and the Highlands
Fling. All in all it was a fragrant,
colorful, altogether delightful dis
play.
Judges for the Flower Show were:

SCOUTING
For the past two v/eeks some of
the scouts have been very active.
On Hillbilly Day we tried to help in
whatever capacity we could, and on
the Garden Tours some of the scouts
were stationed at the entrances of
some of the homes visited to help
in any way they could to prevent
traffic accidents.
On Thursday, August 12, the Court
of Honor was held in the Court House
at Bryson City, at which time Ro
bert Edwards, John Rodgers and Jimmy
Valentine advanced to Second Class.
We had twenty-two present, which
helps our percentage on the atten-

SPECIAL BENEFIT AUCTION
The Highlands Art Gallery has
offered to conduct a special auc
tion on Sunday Aug* 29> starting
at 1:30 p.m. for the benefit of the
Highlands Community Hospital.
The Board of Directors have
gratefully accepted this offer as
an excellent way of successfully
completing the current Drive which
is short of its goal by $1500.00.
Mindful of the date scheduled
for the auction being a Sunday the
public is reminded that hospitals
must operate on Sundays, often the
busiest day of the week. Illness
nor accidents is no respectors of
