SPRAYING CREV; PHONE 2366 IREHE mcCOnnELL TOWN BOARD MEETS The members of the Town Board met Monday night, June 27. At this meeting they drew up the "budget es timate for the fiscal year 1955-56. A copy of the budget estimate is on file in the Town Office for in spection. The To\-m Office is open week days from 8 a.m. to 5 P*ni« FOREIGN FORESTERS VISIT HIGHLANDS Mr. Martin R. Reyes, Forester, from Luzon, Fhillipine Islands and Mr. R.Ae De Rosayro, Forester, of Colombo, Ceylon are spending a few days on the Highlands Ranger Dis trict according to District Ranger J.W, Laros. Under Foreign Organization Ad ministration (FOA) sponsorship they will observe the results of such forestry activities as tree plant ing and timber stand improvement. They are also interested in selec tive timber marking for sawlogs and marking in young timber stands for thinnings as well as logging and timber cutting. ^ A note of interest concerning logging in Ceylon mentioned by Mr. De Rosayro is that log skidding and logging is done by trained elephant Mr. Reyes stated that in the Fhil- lipines logging is done by tractor and use of the high lead system. In Ceylon Mr. De Rosayro is Sen ior Assistant Conservator of Forests. He has been in this country six months. OXYGEN TENT DONATED TO HOSPITAL Mr# and Mrs# Robert Hager have recently given an oxygen tent to the Highlands Community Hospital. This makes a total of two oxygen tents that the hospital has. SEMINARY STUDENT Mr. John Penick of Salisbury, N.C., is assisting the Rev. R.T. Houts this summer. He is devoting his time to the Highlands Methodist Church and the Cashiers Methodist Church. Mr. Penick is a graduate of Wofford and is enrolled in the Duke Divinity School. LIONS CLUB The Highlands Lions Club will meet on Thursday, July 7th, at 7 p.m. at Hotel Edwards. The Lions Club meets on alternate Thursdays.
