The Highlands Community Hospital has
been fulfilling its function to the town to
the limit of its ability.
The many persons who have needed hos
pitalization ;vill verify the vital necessity
of its existence.
Through the medium of the Galax Nevre
a series of articles will be published
based on your questions regarding the pro
blems of the Hospital. Send your questions

CRAFTSMAN'S FAIR OF THE
SOUTHERN GUILD
It is quite a long ride up to Milton,
^^est Virginia but if you ever go, the trip
would be well worth your while for while
you are there you may see craftsmen blowing
glass at the Blenk Glass Co. Blowing glass
is an old art and some say you must go all
the way to Venice, Italy to see it done
right, but we in the Southern Highlands
have our own fine tradition of craftsmen
and craftsmen ship. If you are really in
terested in seeing some fine enamel work,
on copper and silver, in the form of jewel
ry, a ride down to North East Georgia to
Rising Fawn to visit the studio of Virginia
Dudley would prove very worth vdiile. Her
delicate work is typical of the mixture of

SCHOOL PRINCIPAL ELECTED
Highlands School committee recently
elected Mr. Joseph E, Bowles to serve as
principal of the local school. This elec
tion was approved by the Macon County Board
of Education Tuesday, July 5«
Mr, Bowles is thirty years old, is mar
ried and has one child. He holds the B.S.
Degree from Western Carolina College and
expects to receive his M.A, Degree from the
same institution this summer,
Mr, Bowles has five years experience in
school work all of ;vhich has been in Weldon
High School. For the past three years he
held the position of high school principal#
He is a member of the Baptist Church.
Mr, Bowles comes highly recommended by
the school officials of Weldon as well as
others of the same town. He wished to get
located in Western North Carolina in order
to be nearer his and his wife's relatives.
