GIFTS, INTERIOR DECORATIONS FRQI HISTORIC DIXIE HALL Step back into the Old South as you select gifts, antiques, and interior deco rations in Dixie Hall. This famous old house, on the Main Street of Franklin, N.C., is now the Sumer shop of Evelyn Hope Daniels, New York interior decorator. It has gifts for every pocketbook, and for all occasions: party prizes, birthdays, weddings. A choice collection of antiques supplements the modern gifts from this country and from Europe, Miss Daniels also provides a complete decorator service from her Manhattan shop. Included are a wide variety of fabrics for slipcovers, curtains, upholstery; and rugs. She specializes in lampshades-«both parchment and silk—^made to your individual order0 Dixie Hall is one of the oldest houses in Macon County* The kitchen and slave quarters were built in the 1830*s* Ten rooms were added in I860. The two-story porches with Ionic columns and Gothic- arched lattices are a distinctive feature that was rare in architecture even “Before the War". The house narrowly escaped destruction by Federal troops in 1865. During all the years since then it has been loved and lived in by succeeding generations who have declined to '•modernize" its quiet charm. Dixie Hall has been owned only by descend ants of its pioneer builders. Evelyn Hope .Daniels is a member of that family. Today this ante bellum residence is playig a dual role. First it is a remainder of the beauty and dignity of old-time Southern life. And second, by serving as a center for the latest trends in decoration, Dixie Hall keeps pace with the present. The combination of Rodgers and Haznmer- stein*s book and lyrics, the superb cast and the new, revolutionary CinemaScope 55 makes "Carousel” one of the truly big pictures of the year.
