Two Miles Out On Cashiers Road

By paying a considerable sum of money
in addition to the record price paid for
the stage comedy hit, "The Seven Year
Itch,” which is in the third year of its
continuous run on Broadviay, Twentieth
Century-Fox received permission to release
the motion picture version concurrently
with the play* The film, starring Mari
lyn Monroe and Tom Ewell, will play at
the Galax Theatre Wed,, August 1, Ihe
supporting cast includes such stellar
players as Evelyn Keyes, Sonny Tufts, Rob
ert Strauss, Oscar Homolka, Marguerite
Chapman, Victor Moore and Roxanne.
Many scenes, such as "The Hayride,”
which were referred to only in dialogue on
the stage, are actually shown on the
screen,
Tom Ewell, who originated the role of
Richard Sherman, the summer-bachelor hus
band with the roving eye and vagrant im
agination, recreated it for the screen.
In the story he resolves to lead a quiet
life sending his wife and son to a summer
resort, but his vivid imaginings result in
a continuous chain of hilarious incidents.
Like most husbands he has moments in which
he visualizes himself as a Casanova, de
sired by many beautiful women. When he
invited ’’The Girl, ” Marilyn Monroe, in for
a drink he really complicates matters.
She likes his air-cooled apartment so
much that she moves in to stay for the
summer.
Even the counselling of a friendly
psychiatrist, who points out that every
husband gets that old itch to stray during
his seventh year of marriage, fails to
quiet the workings of Ewell*s conscience.
