HIGHLANDS REVISITED
To return to Highlands after an ab
sence of several years is an experience in
living rich idth the especial delight
served for reunions with old friends, not
only human, but plant and animal as well.
The postoffice about the time Mr*
Mays brings the noonday mail up from Wal-
halla^ which he has been doing ever since
the writer was a child, is full of sur
prise meetings with old friends and new.
The air hums with the happy sound of
Southern accents which is music to the ear
of one accustomed to the harsher speech of
the West#
The trails of Highlands which wind
through the laurel and rhododendron arch
ways dappled with shadow and splashes of
sunshine are studded with reunions with
old friends of the plant world® How in
credible to come upon a cluster of shy
