*»THREE VICLSFT PSOPLE-
BIG SCALi: TSCHNICOLCR FID.
The Texas of 1866, seething under the
ruthless pillaging of a Provisional Gov-
ernmentj is the background for the story
of a strange triangle in Paraiuount’s bril-
liantly-cast outdoor drama, ’’Three Violent
People, ” opening Satiirday at the Galax
Theatre, A tale of the rancher-carpet
bagger wars, the large-sc ole Technicolor
pictiare stars Charlton Heston, Anne
Baxter and Gilbert Roland, co-stars Tom
Tryon, Forrest tucker, Bruce Bennet and
features Elaine Stritch,
Heston, Anne Baxter and Tryon are the
explosive trio of the title, and around
them is woven a triplebarreled storj- of
love and hate.
Heston portravs a hotheaded cattle 1
baron who returns to hi.s ranch after a
long absence, bringing with him the girl
he has impulsively ruarried and whom he
knows nothing about. He discovers that
the local Provisional Gavernment, using
savage ta^ laws, has almost stripped him,
of cattle and is bent on getting the restj
that his one-armed brother, a bitter and
unpredictable rebel, may be in lec^ue with
the carpetbaggers; and that his wife, as
wild as both brothers, has hidden a not-
too-respectable past from him.
The colorful Gilbert Roland is seen as
Heston*s flamboyant but wise top hand,
whose loyalty is alienated by Heston's
violent reaction to his troubles. Loca
tion filirdng was done in the Si;5)erstition
Mountain area of Arizona. Hugh brown pro
duced, Rudolph Mate directed, screenplay
is by James Edward Grant. Story by Leon
ard Praskins and barney Sloter.
