The speaker for the evening was Mr» Lester Dawley, former State Chair man of Civil Defense in 1-Iississippi. He spoke on The Atomic Bomb Tests in Las Ve gas, Neveda and gave a first hand account of having seen atomic bomb tests in 1952 and some present day information. Lion Austin Broom, Past District Gvo- ernor for 31-A, of Hendersonville install ed officers for the coming year* They ares Mr. Gordon TeJLley, president| Mr. Joe Reese, 1st vice-presidenti Mr. Neville Bryson, 2nd vice-president; Mr. John John son, 3rd vice-president; Mr. Arthur Rogers Tail Twister; Mr. Curt Wilson, Lion Tamer; and Dr. Herbert Keopp-Baker, Program Chairman. The Lions Club meets each first and third Thursday at 7 500 p.m. at Hotel Ed wards. All visiting Lions members are invited to meet with them. REV. GENE LITTLE MOVED Rev, Gene Little, paster of the High lands Methodist Church, has been moved to a pastorate in Rural Hall,N.C, Taking Rev. Little’s place here will be Rev. J.C, Ver* non who comes from the Rehobeth Church in Greensboro. Rev. Robert Early, a former paster of the Highlands Methodist Church, has been moved from the Spruce Pine Church to Franklin, TOV^N BOARD MEET AT CALLED MEETING At a called meeting Monday night, Juno 9th, the Town Board discussed the request of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors that the Town Board recon sider its action of May 19th when it was decided that the Town Board would not sponsor Hillbilly Day this summer. After discussion of the matter the Town Board decided to stand by its original decision. It was further decided to turn the mat ter over to the Chamber of Commerce for consideration in regard to sponsoring Hillbilly Day for 1958. If the Chamber of Commerce decides to sponsor the cel ebration, the Town Board will turn over to the Chamber pf Commerce the balance which is in the Hillbilly Day Fund. This balance is |24B*84.
