SUPERSTITIONS
By- Lillian Hirt
Only a few years ago, we mountain
people were a superstitious lot. Not
that we would ever have admitted it in
those words —but our various little ta
boos were rigidly observed, or else*
Well, just to explain \^at I mean,
let me tell you about my mother* I*m
sure she remembered to the letter every
tale ever told to her by a grandmother,
axmt or any other person# These tales
seemed to dwell strongly on the dire
consequences to be suffered in one broke
a mirror, spilled salt, and other things
of this nature*
Mama was a gregarious person* She
enjoyed good conversation and a good
laugh most any time*
