A production of one of the oldest and most famous of melodramas, ”The Drunkard”, or The Fallen Saved, This is the stirring story of Edward Middleton (Jack Neil), a young red blooded American who (alasi) has a weakness for strong drink; his wife Mary (Greta Dear), who is pure of heart as a newborn babe ' (sighi); their innocent da'ughter J\jlia (Pauline Melvin); ond of how their hap py homelife is wrecked by the black hearted Lawyer Cribbs (Nick Hodsdon.) The day is saved by Mlly Dowton (Bill Raoul), the homespun hero and is com plicated by the idiotic amorous old maid, Miss Spindle (Skip Williams). Others in the cast are Beverly Fitzpatrick as Mary^s mother (who quietly expires in the second act); Kathy Reynolds as Billy Dowton*s half witted sister (who went crazy when Cribbs ruined her lover)^ and Judy Oudshoff as Miss Rencelow, a noble philanthropi st* "The Drunkard” was first presented in 1844 a temperance movement drama at P.T* Barman^ s American Museum at Bos ton, Mass#, and has been drawing full- house crowds ever since. Neither the drama nor the moral explains the success of the audience^s participation in the performance* Everyone boo^-s the villian, cheers the hero, and sighs at the her oine. So — why pay a psychiatrist to ease your tensions?
