Star, made the following announcements at
the regular meeting of the Chapter on Mon
day night: The Worthy Grand Matron of North
Carolina will make her visit at Oce Chap
ter in Dillsboro, Monday evening August
^th, at 8 o*clock; and the District School
of Instruction will be held at Nequossi
Chapter in Franklin on August 6th, All
members are invited to attend either one
or both of these meetings.
Regular meetings of Highlands Chapter
are on the 2nd and Uth Mondays at 8 o*clock.

Make your plans to attend the East
ern Federation Gem and Mineral Show in
Asheville on August 7f8, and 9» when fab^
ulous collections will be on display in
the City Auditorium. This will be one
of the finest displays to be seen in this
part of the country, and will include not
only North Carolina gems and minerals,
but also outstanding collections from the
entire East.
HIGHLANDS MINERAL SOCIETY
A change of plans for the Mineral
Society trip on last Sunday resulted in
enjoyable and profitable prospecting at
Laurel Creek, This trip yeilded to members
of the group specimens of apatite, serpen
tine, asbestos, and interesting forms of
corundum, though no crystals of the latter,
since these have never been found at Laurel
Creek,
The next monthly meeting of the So
ciety will be held in the library of the
new laboratory of Highlands Biological Sta
tion, At this time Mr. Lewis Dendy will
display his collection of stones and min-
'erals and talk about the areas from which
they were collected. All members of the
Highlands Mineral Society are invited to

MUSIC FESTIVAL NEWS
About 50 interested citizens of
Highlands attended the organizational
meeting of the Highlands Music Festival
at the home of Mrs, Murdock Equen on Mon^
day afternoon. The following officers
were: President, Mrs, Murdock Equen;
Vice-Presidents, Mrs. Tudor Hall, Dr.
Koepp-Baker; Mrs. Harold Cooledge, and
Mr, Robert Balfour, Jr,; Secretary, Mrs,
Lyda Harcombe; and Treasurer, Mr, Hal
Dumas.
Highlands is indeed fortunate in
being able to present the Brevard Music
Center Orchestra in a series of 3 con
certs, Monday, August 11, Tuesday, Au
gust 12 at 8 p.m« with a children's con
cert Tuesday, August 12, at 2:30 p.m. in
the Highlands School Auditorium. Parents
take note of this splendid opportunity
for your children to hear the finest in
music. Dr. Pfohl and the Brevard Music
Center have become nationally known.
The children*s concert is open to adults-
tickets are $1,00 and for children 50^'-
and will be delightfully informative for
all ages. Season tickets are available
for $5*00 each and may be secured by
calling Mrs, Equen at 2830 o^ Mrs, Pearl
Hemphill at ^20. Tickets will also be
on sale at several business places and
in front of the post office.
Proceeds will go to the Highlands
Community Hospital. It is planned to
make this festival an annual event in
