MBnnmmiitR GATHERED roCM ALL OVER THE WORLD BEAUTIFUL GIFTS GIVEN AWAY FREE AT EACH SALE Diflmonos - If flTCHES- SILVERiUflRE FURniTURE RIEniflL iUGS innERUUflRE- CRYSTflLUJflRE - lIHEnS HIGHLflnDS fiRT GALLERY ESTRBLISHED 28 YERHS in THE CRkOLinnS Celebrate 75th Anniversary On Wednesday afternooni June 2A, the Ifcidson Library celebrated its 75th Anni versary with a silver tea held at Lee^s Inn* Guests were welcomed by the hostes ses, Mrs* Ihomas Tyson, Miss Rebecca Nall, Mrs* J»A* Hines, ^s» EUzabeth Valen tine, Miss Helen Augur, and Miss HLanche Davenport# On display at this special occasion was the original secretary's book of the library association, and several old and interesting photographs of early High lands* In the lounge of the Inn,where the tea was held, were beautiful arrange ments of gladiolas, and an unusual one of galax* An open fire added warmth and was most welcome on the rainy afternoon. Presiding at the tea table, which featured an arrangement of native flame azalea and candles, were Miss Dorothea Harbison, Mrs* George Saussy, Mrs* H.D* Porterfield, and Mrs* Laura Brownell* Miss Gertrude Harbison, Librarian, kept the guest book* The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of Mrs* Bess Hines Har kins, well known poetess, with a reading of two of her poems, ’’Return to Highlands” and "Rainy Summer”* llie guests were de lighted at hearing one of Highlands* own writers read from her books of poetry* Mrs* Harkins has received awards from oiw ganizations of both North Carolina and California poets, and has received recog nition frcflii the National Fellowship of American Poetsi Mrs* Harkins is the daughter of Mrs* J*A* HLnes and the late Mr* Hines* She grew up in Highlands, and graduated from Highlands High School* Though she has been living in California for several years, she is still a High lander, and is lovingly known as ”Bess” to her old classmates and friends here* Mrs* Elizabeth Vsdentine was chair man of ea*rangements for the tea* Mrs* Richard Lee and Mrs# Harold Cooledge arranged flowers for the occasion* ROBERTSONS JOIN ARTHUR MURRAY TOUR Mr* and Mrs* H*L* Robertson have arrived in Highlands and have opened their summer home on Little Bear Pen Mountain* They returned to Miami, Florida last Sunday to Join a group of 100 stu^ dents and staff of the Arthur Murray Miami Dance Studio for a tour of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Is lands for the Deuice Derby# Private planes will be chartered for the entire group* After the tour, which will last approximately fifteen days, Mr* and Mrs* Robertson will return to High3^ds for the remainder of the summer* LIONS CLUB MEETS TONIGHT Ihe Highlands Lions Club will meet tonight (Thwsday) at Hotel Edwards at 7t30 p*m* All visitors are welccme#
