Two “giants” of the screen meet
head-on for the first time when Clark
Gable and Burt Lancaster are pitted
against each other in ”Run Silent, Run
Deep,” a hard-hitting story of World
War II underseas warfare, which will
play Monday^ August 10^ at the Galax
Theatrec
The two are paired as a submarine
commander and his executive—each with
strong and violent emotions that erupt
in the heat of combat#
Harold Hecht produced the film for
Hecht-Hill-Lancaster and Iftiited Artists
release# Robert Wise is the director#
The U#S* Navy, anxious to present
the submarine service In an authentic
manner, went all-out in cooperation# The
U*S*S# Redfish, a fleet submarine with
a brilliant World War II record, was de
tailed to the production and ”plays” the
”role” of the U#S#S# Nerka, the sub
marine of the screenplay#
The Na*^ cooperated in every phase
of the planning, supplied a destroyer
and other vessels for aid in filming^
and even furnished a half-million dollar9
worth of equipment to assure complete
authenticity in the sets#
