THE GALAX JUME 23. 1960 PAGE 3 TRAFFIC COUNTERS ARE INSTALLED The U* S. Forest Service has instal led traffic counters at Cliffside and Van Hook Recreation areas. This will give an accurate ocunt of the vehicles entering these areas. The total number of vehicles will then be multiplied by a factor, which is the average number of passengers in each vehicle, to give an estimate of the number of visitors each area receives dur ing the year. The U. S. Forest Service will use these figures in long range plan ning for maintenance of the recreation areas and making additional facilities available for camping and picnicing in the Highlands area. Recreation enthusists will be at their peak during the next three months and questions concerning camping, picnic ing, swimming, fishing, hiking, etc. can be answered at the office of the High lands Ranger District which is located above the Post Office and is open to the public on Monday and Friday of each week.
