I, as a present student at WOC, have conflicting emotions about this new pro gram. I am natura3Jy greatly pleased and excited about the progress of the college I chose to attend, but I am sorry that I will not be around to enjoy the full bene fits of the program as it is completed '[especially the proposed new dramatics center)* I will only see the beginning of the first stage next year with the ad dition of two new dormitories for women being constructed now. These two includ ed with additional ones will make a total of 10 new dormitories by 1980 as well as a new auditorium, academic building, a 200-unit housing development for married students, a* student union building, a cafeteria, an infirmary, a heating plant, a la\mdry and a stadium-—-all new* ^e project planners, Roy B* Campbell assisted by I'JNCRPC Director John Hampton of Asheville, directed the program to maintain the high standards among stiodents, staff and physical facilities, keeping each expanding area functional as the work progresses* Western Carolina College plays an important role in the lives of the people of this area as well as in the lives of those who come from out of state* It has reached a critical mile stone in its development in 19^ idth an already changing and growing program broadening to greater and better proDiise for the fut\a*e* Foimded in 1889 as Western Carolina Teacher*s College, it was dedicated to teacher education* Now the curriculum emphasis has widened to include a balanc ed liberal arts program in equal position to education* Bie present enrollment is 1,673 and if it continues to increase each year at the present rate it will reach a maximum of A.OOO by 1981* The Intersection Highways 64. & 107 CnSHIERS mOTEL p. 0.
