EXECUTIVE CaMITTEE OP ASB
TO MEET IN HIGHLANDS
The executive committee of the Asso
ciation of Southeastern Biologists will
hold its interim planning meeting at the
Highlands Biological Station on Saturday,
June 24, at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Royal Shanks,
professor of botany, Uhiversity of Tenn.,
is president of the Association.
The cammittee will make plans for the
next annual meeting of the association
to be held at Wake Forest College in April
1962. Plans include celebration of the
25th Anniversary of the founding of the
Association.
Fund Drive Headquarters Opening
Beginning Tuesday, June 27, the Hos
pital Fund Drive headquarters, located
this year in the former 'TJee Washette”,

THREE IN ACCIDENT
Saturday night, June 17, around 12
p.m. a wreck occured on the Cashiers Road
about a half-mile out of Highlands.
Mr. W.J. Chambers of Miami, Florida
was driving the car. His wife and a friend,
Mr. George W, Shubert of Pittsburg, Penn
sylvania were with him at the time of the
wreck.
Mr. Shubert and Mr. Chambers were
not seriously hurt and were not admitted
to the hospital, but were treated and re
leased. Mrs. Chambers is still in the
Highlands Community Hospital but is ex
pected to make satisfactory recovery soon.
The Chambers have a summer home in
Cashiers.
UNDERGOES BRAIN SURGERY
Overton Tucdcer Chambers, age eight,
underwent an emergency brain operation
at St. Jos^h Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
last Wednesday, J\me 14-* Tucker, who is
the son of lir. aTid Mrs. Overton Chambers II
and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Hidor N.
Hall of Highlands, is reported to be :m
satisfactory condition and is recovering
well.
Tucker’s brother. Tommy, is now
staying with Mr. and Mrs. Hall here.

**Life” is a very interesting word. I
even doubt that justice is done by call
ing it a word. It encompasses far too
much to be handled so recklessly. Men have
spent their entire life spans exploring
its* wonders, relentlessly searching for
its* meaning, only to be brought to the
sudden realization that their own babies
were destined to be deprived of its sub
stance processes and returned to dust.
Life then is not a gift of man, as yet,
but a gift of God. I know, because I be
lieve that all things are possible through
God and just how far God vdll allow inan to
progress in the study and creation of life
will be determined by the amount of ser-
