At the Annual Dinner Meeting of the
Franklin Chamber of Commerce, Tuesday
evening, August 8, the principal speak
er will be the Hon. Terry Sanford, Gover
nor of North Carolina^ Bob Sloan, presi
dent of the Chamber has announced*
Governor Sanford has showm great
interest in the development of Western
North Carolina* Business men and govern
ment groups from this area are invited
to attend the dinner* Ihe Highlands
Chamber of Commerce and government of
ficials have been asked to attend, and
tickets for the dinner will be on sale
at the Chamber this week.
Second HOT Production Playing
The Highlands Community Theatre is
now presenting its (iecond production of
the season, George Bernard Shaw’s
«ANDROCLES AI^TD THE LION.»' The play,
which opened last night, is based on the
persecution of the early Christians by
the Romans* The unusually large cast
includes many names and faces quite fa
miliar to Highlands theatregoers.
H^old Swope, who will be remember
ed for his performance as H^old in the
first play of the season, “PICNIC, ” plays

BENEFIT AUCTION TO BE HELD
Sunday, August 20th, is the date
for the Auction for the Benefit of the
Fund Drive for the Highlands Community
Hospital. auction is to be given
through the generosity of the Highlands
Art Gallery and will be held in the Art
Gallery Building,
Anyone interested in donating arti
cles for this auction may contact Mrs.

articles will be called for if iihey are
too large to be delivered.
The auction held last year by the
Gallery netted a sum of $3>000 for the
Fund Drive, and it is hoped "Wiat this
year it will be ^uat as successful*
