Collin is eagerly awaiting the ^tart of rehearsals for her first Broad- AN UNSUNG HERO It is said that neither rain nor snow nor sleet or hail can keep the mail from going through* This slogan certain ly applies to our jovial mail carrier from Walhalla, South Carolina, Mr. Gene Mays, who has been traveling his accus tomed route for the past 45 years in faithful adherence to his duty as a post man. With his ever-constant cigar and familiar slow-gaited easy manner he has become a landmark in this area, Mr. Mays began carrying the mail in 1916 and has kept at it ever since. He took over his father*s route on a bicycle (Con*t on page 13 ) RESULTS — BENEFIT AUCTION The Benefit Auction held cmSunday, August 20th, in the Highlands Art Gallery, netted approximately ^^2500 for the High lands Community Hospital. The Hospital committees and staff wish to express their appreciation to the Art Gallery, Mr. Trock and ail personnel, for their contribution of the gallery and their valuable aid at the Auction. They woiild also like to thank all merchants and local people who contributed items to be auctioned, as well as the number of Franklin merchants who donated articles. There was a very good attendance at the auction and it proved highly success ful for all concerned. The door prize, a lovely silver tea set, was turned back in by the generous winner, to be auction ed off. Pres, Moderator to Preach Here The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, Dr* Wallace McPherson Alston, is scheduled to preach at the Highlands Presbyterian Church, Sun day evening, August 27. Dr. Alston, who was elected to the highest office of the Presbyterian Church at the meeting of its General Assembly in April of 1961, idJJL deliver the sermon at the installation of Rev. G. Daniel McCal3, as pastor of the Highlands Presbyterian Church.
