THE GALAX KEWS JUNE 7. 1962 PAGE 16 (HIGHLANDS CHANGES CON*T) different types of cheeses. Around the comer, we find a delightful little shop, the Carriage VJheel, owned by Mrs, Martha Goode, The shop is characterized by a genuine carriage wheel hoisted atop the building. Here can be found so many un» usual and lovely items. We spent quite a while amusing ourselves in this little treasure house one aftemoonl One of the most outstanding changes, and one of the most noticeable, is the fine new Potts Super Market# Our town certai^jly is proud of this new edifice, and we often hear people say, "Have you seen Potts Market yet?" The Market*s wide selection of articles is an asset to the community. The inside is cool and neat—such a good place to buy, chat, and meet new people, Mr, James Crawford of Murphy has opened a Patrol Service for hemes in the Highlands Area, This will be a great help for those leaving homes during the winter months. His office is located next to the Highlander Newspaper Office, Up on hospital hill, another new build ing is found, the nurses home. This home, completed very recently, was constructed by Mr, Alvin Crowe and Co,, and furnished by Mr, Robert Ramsey, One feature is the Dwyer kitchen, a large cabinet containing sjjik, stove, oven, refrigerator, and cabi net space. There is also a large dressing room and closet, and a private bath. Everyone by this time has surely noticed the new entrance to the Stone Lantern, This is quite a picturesque addition to main street, as well as a very characteris tic entrance to the shop itself. The front was patterned after Oriental style with the subdued and dark colors. There are also a few additions and new plannings in the patio and tea garden. The wooden side walk sigh is "cute" to say the leastI Further up the street, we find that the Galax Theatre has undergone a "face lifting” both on the inside and out. New paint on the outside and inside add a bright freshness and the side walls inside the auditorium have been sealed with acoustic board. The pro jectors have also been rebuilt this Spring and an PM tuner has been in stalled to forovide fine music before the show begins, and while the slides are being shown. Miss Alice Inman has moved her Sportswear Shop to a new location this year, the lower floor of the Masonic Building, This room has been completely redone with a greyish tile floor, white walls, draperies and lots of shelves. Little straw bird cages with straw birds hang in front of each window at the entrance, adding an artistic touch. Miss Inman will carry a wide assortment of sportswear, sweaters and matching skirts, and dresses. She will open next Friday, June 15. An old landmark next to the Metho dist Church has disappeared and the fine enlargement of the Town House Mo tel has taken its place as a new and modern one. Beautiful crab orchard stone from Tennessee give the motel an air of modem dignity. There are two new complete BRYflDT FUnERfiL HOfTie Franklin, 24: HOUR flmBULnncE service Phone LA 4--2411 Lyda HflRComBe,realtor REAL ESTATE INSURANCE units. The interior is in cool and refresh ing colors, providing a restful atmosphere. Dr, Hedden*s new modem denti-at's office is located in this building, with its entrance on main street. Across the street, another new busi ness is going up, the "Klip *N Kurl" beau ty shop, operated by Miss Martha Reese, This new shop faces main street and is lo cated next to Reeves Hardware, Martha stated that she hopes to open in approxi mately two weeks, A door down, we see that the Gem Shop has also undergone major changes. Newly painted walls is aqua mist match beautifully with the new pink shelves ^ A partitian was taken our in the back of the shop, providing more room for visitors. New plate glass show windows and shelves allow better observation of the various rocks and minerals displayed there. The lights, which hang from the ceiling, are new, too, Owen* a Watch Shop is new—it* s located up on Drug Store hill. The community has expanded and improv ed over the past months and the outlook for the future is bright with improvements, expansion and growth. ^he Editor ^LilUGH-FlllED TIiHE-FILLED FUH-FILUD iiMMY CUNTOM "TEENAGE MiLLtONAiRE* locffir zAStf MUSICOLOR UNnEOffl*RfSTS AT THE GALAX THEATRE SUNDA Y^HoNDA Ys JuNE 10-*11
