Handel-Jacob* The overture, Handel*s 28th
of 32 oratorios, falls into five sections—
a slow, dignified introduction, a lively
courante, an expressive slow section fea^*
turing an oboe solo, followed by an even
slower section with flute sole and concli>«
ding with a brilliant fugaX allegro*

MTSON BARRATT PASSES
Watson Barratt, theatrical designer,
died Itiday, Jialy 6, in Colu&bus Hospital
in New York* He was 78 years old and lived
in the Royalton Hotel in New York City,
He altfJ maintained an estate here in High^*
lands*
Mr. Barratt*s career as art director
and scene designer covered more than fifty
years and 1,000 productions on and off
Broadway, including the original production
of ”The Student Prince" by Sigmund Romberg
in 1924*
As art director, he designed settings,
laid out construction and color and super
vised stage lighting* Frequently he also
selected costumes for productions*
For many years he worked with J*J.
Shubert and the la*^ Lee Schubert and was
art director for thd St. Lewis Municipal
Opera, which he joined in 1932. He left
in 1934, but returned in 1941 for a ten^
