For a short period in the 1930Mr*
Barratt became a co-producer with Rufus
Phillips and leased the Gcmmunity Playhouse
at Spring Lake, N* J, He staged productions
in London and Paris and designed settings
for the World* s Fair at Brussels, Belgium#
His last work was the recent staging of
“Brigadoon” at the New York City Center.
He worked as a magazine illustrator befor®
turning to the theatre.
Mr* Barratt had studied at the Chase
School of Art in New York and at the Howard
Pyle Illustration School in Wilmington, Del*

was for »»Sinbad» in 1918. Re de
signed subsequent productions of
“Blossom Time” in 1921, and all Win
ter Garden productions from 1918 to
1928; “Artists and Models,” 1930;
“Hitch Your Wagon” in 1937, and “The
Importance of Being Earnest,” in 1939.
Ris wife, Mrs* Louise Bascom
Barratt, died in S|petember, 1949, at
their heme in Highlands*
Mr. Barratt was buried beside
his wife in the Highlands Memorial
Park. Graveside rites, conducted by
Rev* G* Dan McCall, were Monday, July
9* Pallbearers were Mr* Jack Wilcox,
Mr. Ted Crunkleton, Mr, George Saussy,
and Mr. Frank Cook, Mr. Fred Allen, and
Mr* Taft Henry*
Mr. Barratt was interested in the
Highlands Community Theatre, and
had contributed to its growth* Some
people sent contributions to the
Watson Barratt Memorial Fund rather
than sending flowers*
With Scoutmaster Ellison Magruder
officiating and Emeritus Scoutmaster
Richard Harrison assisting, thirteen boys
will be receiving higher awards.
Those receiving Tenderfoot Awards
will be: James Bryson, Larry Chastain,
Robert Miller, William Pierson, Steve
Pierson, and Robert Zoellner; Second
Class Rank and Badge: Michael Dryman,
Michael McCall, and Kenneth Wilson; First
Class Rank and Badge: James Crawford,Jr.,
Edward Potts, Jr., Kurt Shuler, and Robert
Rice, Jr*
Mr. Magruder has asked parents, Ro-
tarians, and any interested persons to
attend this presentation.
These thirteen boys will leave about
2:30 on Friday afternoon, July 13 for ad
vancement camping with the scoutmaster.
They plan to camp in the Shortoff Area,
and will arrive back about 3 o*clock on
Saturday afternoon.

Honor in the Fellowship Hall of the
Episcopal Church at 7 o'clock.
