'•THE KING AND I" One ®f the all time musical stage hits, Rodgers and Hammerstein*s "The King and I," has been adapted to the screen by 20th Cen- tury-Fox with Yul Brynner and Deborah Eerr in the title roles. The CinemaScope-DeLuxe Color musical delight brings to life all the magical enchantment of the exotic East, its people, customs, and majestic way of living. Based on Margaret Landon*s popular book, Anna and the King of Siam, the elabo rate production opens Tuesday, July 24 at the GALAX THEATRE. Deborah Kerr stars as the beautiful Anna, who tries to teach the stubborn Mon arch of Siam the ways of the Western World, while Yul Brynner won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the King who cannot under stand how a man can survive with only one wife. Rita Moreno appears as the lovely slave girl “Tuptim,” who defies tradition and falls in love with Carlos Rivas. Highlighting the Darryl F. Zanuck presentation is the inspiring music of Richard Rodgers and the memorable lyrics of the late Oscar Hammerstein II, which in cludes such unforgetable songs as "I Whistle A Happy Tune,** "Getting to Know You,” "The March of the Siamese Children,'* **Hello Yo\ing Lovers," and "We Kiss In A Shadow." Probab ly the most outstanding single sequence is the performance of the Siamese-style ballet, "The Small House of Uncle Thomas," created by and staged by the famed choreographer, Jerome Robbins, A project that took two years to create, "The King and I," on the screen, is certainly a milestone in entertainment.
