TO¥N MEETING HELD
At a meeting held Monday night the
Town of Highlands adopted an official bud
get for the 1962-1963 fiscal year# Upon
the third reading a $163t906 budget was
adopted as sufficient to meet the Town*s
needs.
The Board voted to give money to the
Highlands Community Hospital, Highlands
Chamber of Commerce, Hudson library, and
Highlands Memorial Park for the amount al
located for the fiscal year, which is as
follows: Hospital and Chamber of Commerce
$500 each; Library and Cemetery $250 each.
The Town purchased a utility body frorr
the Murphy Body Distributors, Inc, for the
pick-up truck recently bought, and a power
unit for pumps at Rattlesnake and Houston
Stations to be used as extra motors. The
bid from Western North Carolina Paving Com
pany for paving of the Town streets was ac
cepted.
ATTENDS MEETING
On Sunday, July 15, Rev, Clinton Bail-
ey attended the monthly meeting of the Ma
con Baptist Association Minister*s Meeting
which was held at First Baptist Church of
Franklin. During the business session the
Rev, Horace Falls was elected President of

NEW CHURCH ENTRANCE TO BE BUILT
Plans were announced last Sunday morn
ing for the construction of a new walkway
and entrance into the sanctuary of the First
Presbjrterian Church. The walkway will con
nect a new parking area with the sanctuary.
"We have recognized for several years the
need of some means of entering our church
without the necessity of climbing or de
scending stairs,” said Rev. McCall, '*We
know that many of our senior members and
friends, as well as many who warned against
climbs because of medical reasons, will wel
come this improvement.”

Rev, James Thurman, pastor of the
Highlands Methodist Church and Mr, Bill
Lyons, manager of Silver Slip Lodge were
installed as new members of Highlands Ro
tary Club by President Ellison Magruder
Tuesday evening.
The program for the night was a re
cording, which was a personal greeting and
brief discussion of the I962-I963 year's
Rotary program, from the new Rotary Inter
national President Natish C, Laharry of
India. The theme of the recording was "Kin
dle the Spark Within," and related to "the
power that lights the path to Service. Dis
