The event which has been greatly an
ticipated all summer, the Square Dance Fes
tival sponsored “by the Highlands Chamber
of Commerce , was a huge s uccess last
Thursday night, draidng between 700 and 800
fun-seeking local residents and visitors.
The Festival was a success, not only fi
nancially (net profit approximately $1200)
but socially as well* There was represent^
ed a wide area, including South Carolina,
Georgia, as well as local residents frcaa
as far away as Montana* Ctae Highlands vi
sitor attending was from London, England*
Biere were approximately 90 door
pidzes given away* These door prizes were
generously contributed by local business
men and a n^ber of wholesale agents who
work in the Highlands area*

The Methodist Xouth Fellowship of
the Highlands Methodist Church will ^on-
sor an Aunt Jemima Pancake Supper on Satur
day evening, August 18th* Tickets wiH

ren under tvrelve* Each ticket will en
title the bearer to all the pancakes and

gin in the near future* The Supper will
be under the direction of Mr* Joe E* Gil
bert, of Hickory, N, C*, representative
of the Quaker Oats Company* Members of
the Methodist Youth Fellowship, working
under Mr* Gilbertts direction, will help
cook and serve the supper* Tickets aie
now available from all members of the
group* A ticket table on main street in
Highlands will be set up during the last
few days prior to the supper*
Mixes for the pancakes and buckwheat
cakes to be served are furnished by the
Quaker Oats Company, makers of Aunt Jemima
products, as a service to charitable or^
ganizations and as a means of advertising*
Mlk, eggs, butter,^ coffee, meat, and sy
rup for the event also are being donated
by concerns in the Highlands area* Supper
will be served from 5 to 8:00 on the 18th*
Tickets should be secured before the 18th
if possible* Only a limited number will
be available* The supper will be prepared
and served in the Fellowship Hall in the
basement of the Methodist Churchi
