THE GALAX IWS AUGUST 16, 1962 PAGE 3 HOME AND GARDEN TOUR Fair skies, beautiful homes and gar- dans, delicious luncheon, and a gracious welcome everywhere made this year*s Homes and Gardens Tours one of the most enjoyable events of the summer. Friday, August 10th, dawned clear and cool and by nine o*clock residents from Highlands and visitors from as far away as Canton, Tryon and Greenville began to gath er at the table in front of the Episcopal Church to buy tickets for the Garden Club*s Homes and Gardens Tours, By ten o'clock, when the Tours had been advertised to start, crowds were already on their way to visit the first home. In spite of the resulting congestion and traffic delays, the morning tour was most enjoyable; and luncheon at Sapphire Valley Inn, which was planned for one hundred guests, and, by the kindness and graciousness of the hotel management, served to over two hundred hungry ’'Tour ists," was delicious, and somehow, plenti ful. Many of the visitors continued on for the afternoon tour and were joined by near ly a hundred others who chose the afternoon tour alone, which was shorter but as beauti ful and rewarding as the morning tour. The Highlands Garden Club is deeply grateful to all those who helped make this year's Tours such a success—to the owners who opened their homes for the occasion; to the management of Sapphire Valley Inn, who so wonderfully extended their hospitality "far beyond the call of duty^'; to the driv ers; and to the many other friends who helped to "put on the show"—and it was a beautiful show—and an event well worth all the time and effort spent to planning and carrying it out.
