MINERAL SOCIETY DISSOLVED
The Highlands l/Hneral Society met
last Friday evening in the Fellowship Hall
of the Episcopal Church, There was a
very small number of persons attending#
It was decided that the Society woiild be
dissolved because of lack of interest and
attendance*
METHODIST CHURCH NEl-IS
The members of the Methodist Youth
Fellowship and other members of the Church
wish to esqpress their thanks to the people
and merchants of Highlands for their help
and support in their Pancake Supper, held
la st Saturday evening. The supper was a
huge success, and a substantial sim to
go toward the Manse Building Fund was made*
Rev, James Thurman announced that
Rev* Emmett McClaudy, of Brevard College,
Brevard, N, C*, would be the minister at
the llsOO service Sunday in Cashiers. Rev.
Thurman will deliver the 11:00 message in
Highlands on Sunday,
Rev, Thurman left yesterday to attend
conferences at the Southern Conference at
Lake Junaluska* He will attend these
meetings during this week.
HR. HENDRIX RESUMES ¥ORl HERE
Mr Charles Hendrix has returned to
resume his duties as Principal of Highlands
School, He will be commuting from his home
in Itophy, N* C# until he finds a place
to live in Highlands,
L'ir, Hendrix announced that all teach
ers must report to work on August 29th,
30th, and 31st* School will open Sep
tember 4th for students*

Dr, and Mrs* H, C* Rohelen and
three children of Ft, Lauderdale, Fla*
took their first mining venture to the
Shuler Mine Wednesday and came back with
not just one, but several outstanding
stones,•*One Sapphire of 19 3/4- real
good| one Ruby, 6 1/2 ct, extra goodj
one lovely star Sapphire, 4 l/2ct,, and
most outstanding of all, found by Cindy,
a beautiful Rhodolite Garnet weighing
7 1/2 carats* Mr, McCampbell at The
Gem Shop says it is one of the nicest he
has ever seen.
Another outst^ding Rhodolite Garnet
turned up at the Shuler Mine last week,
found by Mr* and Mrs. Joe Jenkins of
Gainesville, Ha« This stone weighed
12 carats. This one was flawed across the
center, but will cut into two very riice
and valuable stones*
Vfliile we are on the subject, let*®
not fail to mention the 33 1/3 ct* Ruby
found about two weeks ago by Mr. Schuller
of Romney, ¥* Va* It is now cut and on
display at McCampbell*s Gem Shop.
