JANIEG TO CONDUCT BREVARD
ORCHESTRA FOR H C T
Henry Janiee, Artistic Director of
the Brevard J&isic Center and Conductor of
the Spartanburg Symphony Orchestra, will
conduct the only concert in Highlands
this summer by the Brevard Music Center
Sinfonietta as the opening program of
Highlands Community Theatre»s twenty-
sixth season of music and drama, on Thurs
day July 15th, at 8:30 p. m, (tonight).
Tickets for this special concert went
on sale Tuesday morning at the Theatre's
new main street box office, and reserva
tions may be made by calling the business
office at 48?0. All seats are reserved
and the price of admission is $2,50 for
adults and $1.50 for children under 12
years.
The Managing Director of the Theatre,
Fred C. Allen, has announced that all Pa
tron Members may make their seating arrange
ments directly with Mrs. T, H, Round, the

LIVINGSTON AND JENNER TO
LECTURE
Mr. John L. Livingston, Rice Univer
sity, will lecture on the geology of the
Highlands area on Friday, July I6, at
3:00 P. M. in the Miseum Building. Mr.
Livingston is in residence at the Biolog
ical Station studying the geology of the
Blue Ridge escarpment.
On Friday evening, July 22, 8:00
P. M. in the Museum Building, Dr. Charles
E. Jenner will lecture on photoperiodism
or nature’s 3^5 day week.
A photoperiod is the amount of day
light per day to which an organism is ex
posed. It has a marked influence on the
time of flowering of plants, the time of
migration of birds, the time of spawning
of fish, and the seasonal change of color
©f certain birds and mammals.
Dr. Jeianer is professor of zoology
at the University of North Carolina, Chap
el Hill, and a member of the board of
trustees of the Highlands Biological Sta
tion,
The lectures are a part of the nature
study program for adults sponsored by the
Highlands Biological Station. Mr. C. H.
Ekdahl has led one bird walk as a part of
the program and will lead others during
