Tonight*s lecture at the Museum will
be given by Dr. Lindsay S, Olive, profes
sor of botany at Columbia University, Dr.
Olivers topic will be "Mushrooms—poison
ous, edible, and hallucinogenic." Dr,
Olive, who with his wife, spends his sum
mers in Highlands, is an outstanding au
thority on the cytology, genetics, morphol
ogy, and taxonomy of the fungi. His re
search has taken him to several Islands of
the Pacific, New Zealand, and Australia,
His lecture begins at 8:00 P.M. and will
be at the Museum,
Helen Hill Norris, an authority on
the history of the Highlands area and the
MISS GANTT IS WED TO MAGRUDER
Miss Barbara Jean Gantt and Elli
son Capers Magruder, of Scaly Mountain,
were married Saturday in St. George*s
Episcopal Church by the Rev, Gale D,
Webbe, Rector of Highlands Church of
the Incarnation,
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs, Joseph Frederick Gantt of Ashe
ville, N. C, She is a graduate of West-
ern Carolina College. The bridegroom
is a graduate of Western Carolina and
is with the Magruder and O^Brien Real
Estate Firm here. He is the son of Mr.
and Mrs, Ralph Hemmingway Magruder of
Miami, Fla.
Mr, Gantt gave his daughter in
folklore of the mountains, will lecture
at the Museum on August 18th at 3*00 P,M,
The lecture is open to the public without
charge. Mrs. Hill is the author of a two-
volume book, LOOKING BACKWARDS and she
regiilarly writes a column for The Highlan
der also titled "Looking Backwards,"
Summer flowers of the Highlands area
is the subject of a benefit lecture to be
given at the Museum by Dr. Ralph M, Sargent
on August 19 at 8:00 P.M, Dr. Sargent,
an outstanding botanist and photographer,
will illustrate the lecture. There will
be an admission charge of $1.00, the pro
ceeds going towards the development of the
botanical garden of the Highlands Biologi
cal Station,
ANNUAL EPISCOPAL TEA, Friday, August 13th,

marriage. She wore a sheath of organza
with lace appliques with a chapel train,
and a mantilla. Mrs, E, Gerald Slaut-
terback was matron of honor and Miss
Helen Ann Robinson and Miss Rochelle
Runyon were bridesmaids. They wore
pale blue taffeta dresses with full
overskirts and veils and they carried
white carnations, Mary Frances Gantt,
sister of the bride, was junior brides-
main and Joseph Palmer Magruder, Jr.
was acolyte,
Mr, Magruder was his son*s best
man and ushers were Ralph Hemmingway
Magruder, Jr, and Joseph Palmer Magruder
brothers of the bridegroom; Colvin Thomas
Morgan of Asheboroj and John Michael
O^Brien of Coral Gables.
Assisting at the reception in the
church social hall after the ceremony
