UN LUEGO SANTA ALA MEHORIA Above is the so-called Spanish in scription atop Devils Courthouse adjacent to I'ifhiteside Mountain, both in Jackson County, North Carolina, although close to the Jfecon County line. The writer had long been suspicious about this in scription, its perfection and the like, the answer to which might have been lost before long had he not located two per sons who knew its maker and these no longer 3roung. The inscription was open to question because of poor Spanish, er rors in grammar and spelling in that language, the lack of a date, and any sense in meaning.
