PLANS PROGRESSING FOR ANNUAL
SQUARE DANGE FESTIVAL
The Chamber of Commerce has announced
that word has been received from three
teams who plan to compete in the Square
Dance Festival to be held August 11th at
the Highlands School Gym, The teams are
the Mountain City Cloggers, Mountain City,
Ga*; the Carolina Sweethearts, Murphy,
N, C*j and the Helen's Barn Cloggers of
Highlands* Definite arrangements have not
been made with feny other teams yet*
Tickets, which are |2*00, are being
sold at the Chamber of Commerce* A tick
et booth vdll be set up in town next week.
On the night of the event, tickets will
be sold at the door of the Highlands School
Gym.

NANTAHALA FINE ARTS SHOW
An invitation is extended to all art
ists in and around a 25 mile radius of
Highlands to submit works of art to the
1966 Nantahala Fine Arts Show to be held
in Highlands, The Show is scheduled for
the 5th, 6th, and 7th of August and will
be held in the Baskin Building, which is
located next to Jellen*s Gem Shop on Drug
Store Hill.
The Show will be open for public
viewing from 11:00 a,m to 9:00 p,m, on
Friday (August 5th)5 10:00 a,m, to 9:00
p.m. on Saturday (August 6th)5 and from
1:00 p,m, to li:00 p,m, on Sunday (August

Perhaps this article will not "make
sense” for those who have lived since the
time when the Model T Pbrd was popular,
but many of the readers will recall the
one lever on the right side of the steer
ing wheel was the accelerator and a lever
on the left side controlled the "spark".
It was necessary to have gas and spark if
the automobile ran well.
