Certainly the war news reminds us
that man has become a potential killer
with weapons that make those of the past
appear to be toys. The gangs of our
cities still are able to get away with
murders. Even some who seem to be the
best of people sometimes have a streak of
homicide within them.
One of the most frightening acts of
destruction that I know about is not one
man killing another, but man deliberately
killing himself by suicide.
Today statistics reveal some astound
ing facts. In the United States where
we have so much of the world’s material
advantages aioost w, eleven people out of
every one hundred commit suicide each
year. This places suicide (CON'T P. 17)
ANNUAL SQUARE DANCE FESTIVAL
The Chamber of Commerce sponsored
Square Dance Festival held every year
for the past five years takes place to
night. The event will be held in the
Highlands School Auditorium at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are $1.00 for children and
$2.00 for adults.
Door prizes will be donated by the
towa merchants ; ' -
The teams participatingin this year't
festival are the Helen's Barn Cloggers,
Highlands; the Mt. City Cloggers, Ift.
City, Gaj the Carolina Sweethearts, Kfar-
phy, N* C«j and the Caroline Ballenger
Jr. and Sr* Square Dance Teams, of Wal-
halla, S« C. Prizes will be given to
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of $100,
$50, and $25.
Proceeds will go toward..the adver
tisement of the Highlands area.
