announced the examination for postal
clerk and city carrier for several West
ern North Carolina towns including High
lands, Franklin, and Cullowhee, Certifi
cation to fill these positions will be
made of the highest eligibles on the

•'CAROUSEL"
"Carousel" is the most rollicking,
molodic launching platform for the en
tertainment rocket which Cinemascope
ever gave evidence of becoming.
The cast was selected with match
less care, and the result is a set of
matchless performances, Gordon McCrae
stars as Billy, and Shirley Jones as
Julie.
The film is a simple story of the
carousel barker with women at his heels
who falls in love with Julie, but can
not forego his wastrel iraya. It tells
of his careless ways until he learns he‘s
to be a father. Then comes Jigger's
ternpting suggestion and the ensuing fail
ure of the holdup, resulting in Billy
fatally falling upon his own knife.
And now, when he goes back, he
finds his lovely daughter, at 15, un
happy because of the father he had been.
But he brings clear courage to the child,
and a soft contentment to the Julie who
recognizes his ethereal presence before
and at the daughter’s graduation.
Such inimitable songs as "June is
Bustin' out all Over", "If I Loved You",
and "You’ll Never Walk Alone" help to
make the movie a really big success.
"Carousel" plays Wednesday, July
