The Unaka Range, so named by the tfeited States Geological Survey, consti tutes the boundary between North Carolina and Tennessee. This range is cut into mountains of separate names by several rivers which have their source on the western and northern slopes of the Blue Ridge—the Nolochucky, which is formed by the Cane River and the North and South Toe; the French Broad, the Pigeon, the little Tennessee, and the Hiawassee, which, with their numerous tributaries, drain all the land between the Blue Ridge and the Unaka Ranges.
