HILLBILLY SPIRIT SPREADS TO
THEATRE HILL
Highlands Community Theatre is co
operating 100/a with the rejuvenated Hill
billy Day. Since the opening night pre
sentation of ’¥ait Until Dark” falls on
Thursday, July 25th, the group on the
hill says, "Come as you are", and all of
our ushers will be in Hillbilly costume.
Performances will also be on Friday,
July 26 and Saturday the 27th at 8:30
p.m. The special Sunday matinee will be
at 2:30 p.m.
Richard Cooke, the New York critic,
said of this play in the Wall Street Jour
nal, "The war between men and woman took
a new turn with the presentation of "I'/ait

SERVICES HELD FOR LUTHER RICE, JR.
Luther Warren Rice Jr., 53^ of
Highlands, died Wednesday night, July 17,
in an Asheville hospital after a long
illness.
iy&7. Rice was born June 26, 1915* He
attended the University of Miami and
Georgia Technical Institute. A lifelong
resident of ^kcon County and a restaurant
owner, he was a veteran of World War II
and a member of the Highlands Lions Club.
Surviving are the father, Luther
W. Rice, Sr., of Highlands; a brother,
Herbert Rice of Stuart, Fla; three sis
ters, lyi’s. Rucker Ragland of Miami, Fla.,
and Mrs. Elizabeth Harbison and I^s. James

ANNUAL HOSPITAL BAZAAR THIS
WEEKEND
Throughout this past year our High
lands women have been working toi-jard one
goal - to have a suc9essful bazaar. A
visit to the bazaar will be a pleasant
experience, for nowhere can there be
found such a variety of wonderful and
useful items.
The bazaar will be held in the Pres
bjrberian Educational Building from 9 to
5 on Friday and 9 to 12 on Saturday. We
urge everyone to help make it a success.
