HIGHLANDS HIGH GRADUATES 18 Commencement exercises at Highlands High School were held Wednesday evening, June Uth, in the school gymnasium. The following seniors were graduated! Virgil Deloss Barnes, James Phillip Bryson, Larry 'Qiomas Chastain, Carlton Baker Crane, Ken neth Wayne Dryman, Ifeirgie Ann Edwards, Robert Slyvester Osment, Douglas Eugene Potts, Wanda Sue Reese, Nancy Jean Speed, Fred Hayes Stewart, Joseph Henry Smith, Richard Thomas Talley, F^ela Ann Thomp son, IxDretta Hicks Wilson, Scotty Monroe Wilson, William Henry Zoellner. Diplomas were awarded by Superintendant of Ife.con County Schools, Mr. H, Bueck. Rev, Henry Mueller, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, gave the in vocation, Dr, Paul Eddy, professor of psychology at Western Carolina University, delivered an address. Special music was provided by the school chorus, who sang ‘•One God" and "Dona Nobis I^chem" under the direction of Mr. Alva Duke. Miss Sonjia Keener was pianist for the occasion. Honorary marshalls from the junior class were Susan ViMtmire, chief; Ifery Lee Thompson, Tommy Vinson, Cheryl McCall, Joan Wood, and Neal Chastain. Ifeiscots were Jeffery Houston and Laura Billingsly. The Valedictory medal went to Miss Ifergie Edwards, daughter of Ifr. and Mrs, John Edwards. The Salutatory medal was given to Bill Zoellner, son of Mr. and Ifrs, Richard Zoellner. As a representative of Highlands Eastern Star Chapter (CONTINUED ON PAGE 13) PARRISH-GALLOWAY 70¥S SPOKEN Miss Margaret Parrish became the bride of Jfr. Doyle Calloway on Friday, May 23, in Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurinburg, N. C. Rev. Charles E. Parrish, the bride's father, officiated at the 7t30 p.m. ceremony, assisted by the Rev. Grant Sharpe, minister of the church. The bridegroom’s parents are and Jfrs, Paul Leon Calloway of Highlands • The bride was escorted to the altar by her uncle, William K. Ikrrish, of Raleigh. She wore a formal gcwn of white peau de soie fashioned with an empire waistline bodice and A-line skirt. The bodice was made of lace and featured a scalloped neckline. Her cathedral train fell from a satin and seed pearl headdress. She carried a nosegay of white roses. Miss l&ry Beth Ffeirrish, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a springtime green formal gown, with an entire waistline and an A-line skirt. Her bouquet was a nosegay of yellow daisy mums. Bridesmaids were Mss Gail Calloway of Highlands, sister of the groom, and Miss Sara Betts Hunter of Aiken, S. C. They wore dresses like that of the honor attendant and carried bouquets identical to hers. The bridegroom had his brother-in- law, Robert James, of Scaly Mountain, N. C,, as best man.
