Jacobs on a level Xirith that of its aspir ations. It is certainly the most expen sive S-F film in years—and perhaps the most expensive released to date. Ihe subject matter, which comes from a novel by Pierre Boulle, is unique and intriguing! An unidentified planet is in habited by a race of apes who lord it over the "human" population (animal-like mutes) and hunt them down as if they were beasts of prey. Into this strange land come four American astronauts whose spacecraft has crashed. Only one of them lives for very long, and the picture records the indig nities to which he is cruelly subjected, his struggles to survive, and his eventual escape from his captors. With Charlton Heston as the dauntless hero thrust into this peculiar situation, "Planet of the Apes" will obviously draw a much larger audience than that of the average S-F film. As pointed out before, this is a big picture—^big in scope and intention as well as in production values. Significantly "Planet" is one of those films which can be enjoyed on two levels — as sheer adventure or as philo sophical allegory. Ihe film plays at the GALAX THEATRE Thursday and Pi'iday, August 28 and 29, 5KYLINE LODGE 6 Hearthside Dining Room DINNER BY RESERVATION ONLY NO RESERVATION ACCEPTED \ AFTER 5 P.M. \ OUR SPEGIALTY \ SIZZLING STEAKS | Phone 526-2121 j Oren d Harilou HeGlain i
