Certainly, the United States of
America is a free country* We elect our
leaders, we worship as we please - if at
all - and we certainly assemble freely,
but this is political freedom* The cries
which ring from"sea to shining sea” are
for a new kind of freedom* '
Freedom is many things to many
people. Freedom, first of all, is
political liberty. This is the kind of
freedom used as the cornerstone in
building our country. We tend to take
this kind of freedom for granted, al
though we X70uld never want to be without
it. This freedom has become synonymous
with the words United States, and it is
for this freedom that soldiers have
fought and died throughout our history.
A more liberal definition is em
ployed when freedom means the ability to
act without restraint. This kind of free
dom would be characteristic of an
anarchy, a government in which there are
neither lax^s nor leaders. This freedom
is undesirable, since our entire uni
verse is based on an orderly system.
A third extreme definition of free
dom is complete detachment. This free
dom is absolutely unthinkable, since
even the invisible particles which make
up the invisible atoms depend on each
other. Alone, they would be nothing.
Thus, no man can be an island, and ab
solute freedom is both undesirable and
impossible. Unfortunately, these
approaches seldom, if ever, free one's
mind. It is evident from news reports
that they are actually Benedict Arnolds
x-iho add to the confusion.
However, the cries continue. Are
these cries really for freedom? No, I
believe that the freedom sought today

is an inner freedom, a peace of mind.
The revolutionists today do not try to
overthrow a government but to overthrow
the pressure and confusion that control
their oira minds. They are not boxmd by
a Starip Act imposed by a distant king,
but by the fetter of chaos in their minds,
How does one fight a war against
enemies in his own mind? This fight for
freedom cannot be won with soldiers,
shootings and strategies. irJhat then will
defeat this foe? J&ny people believe
that an expanding of their minds will
make them the conquerors. This ex
pansion of course, is done by using hall
ucinatory drugs such as ISD. Other drugs
are also used in attacks against these
enemies in the mind; cold pills, diet
pills, pills which disguise the energy
while in use. Each person has probably
devised his own tactics, among which are
demonstration and meditation.
Vhny Christians testify that they
have won this war by finding a purpose in
life, by having an anchor to cling to
when life is rough, and by knoxjing that
there is a Supreme Being x^ho cares for
us all.
