"A DREAM OF KINGS"
In National General’s "A Dream of
Kings" in Technicolor, Anthony Quinn
returns to Holly wood for the first time
in almost a decade.
He plays Matsoukas, a Greek-Imerican
father and husband "who lives for the day
when his money making schemes catch hold
^d he can journey to Greece withr his
invalid son* He believes that the warm
sun and fresh mountain air of the land
of his ancestors will cure the child >s
deadly malady. As a fast -moving big-
city operator, it is a completely diff
erent characterization for him than that
of Zorba, an earthy peasant. The film
plays Tuesday and Wednesday, July 7*“8 at
the Galax Theatre.

WHITE ELEPHAOTS, AMOm?
Is there any such thing as a real live
White Elephant? Pale gray, maybe or sort
of lavendar. But white? Well, unless
you live in India or Africa, or oim
a 200 or a circus, it doesn’t really
matter.
For our purposes, a White Elephant
is a Thing— a thing that is a misfit
in your house but might be a perfect fit
in someone else*s home. Like that
Victorian vase you inherited and never
use because your decor is Contemporary!
the handsome green and yellow luncheon
set your sister-in-law sent you—and
your china is blue and white. Or the
costume jewelry you bought to go with
the dress you can no longer get into.
How about the electric percolator on
the top shelf in the pantry— a Christmas
gift—but you already had two?
Look around again and see if you
can’t find some good usable articles you
no longer want and bring them to the
Presbyterian Educational Building on
Thursday, July 23rd, to be sold at the
Satulah Club’s White Elephant Table at
the Hcspital Bazaar. You'll have more
shelf and closet space and the Hospital
will benefit from the exchange.

All their work is done together. One
of their most recent pieces of sculpture
is a galax arrangement.
The Drumm's are artists in interior
design and their work is mostljr
representational and they take for their

creating them in copper or brass, and
achieving coloration by heat*

The following sign appeared in the
window of the Silver T^iTiistle July 1.
"Amazing Grace and Fat Albert
announce the arrival of three Sons and
Two Daughters. Was Rabbit surprised!"
This sign signifies the end of an
anxious wait for the appearance of the
offspring of "Amazing Grace" the
Siamese mother-cat belonging to one
Chuck Duck and her supposed husband
"Rabbit" a bob-tailed Manx, However,
when the kittens arrived June 30, they
were full-blooded Siamese complete with
long tails proving that the Siamese
gentleman, "Fat Albert" is the proud
father instead of "Rabbit," Kittens and
mother are doing well, but Rabbit seems
a bit dejected.
CONTRACT LET FOR NEl'J MCON COUl'in
COURTHOUSE
Franklin - i^jacon County Commission
ers Monday night let a contract for
$l,l5lj728 for construction of a new
ikcon County Courthouse and Adminis
tration building, although a bond
issue for the structure had been voted
for only $980,000.
Bids had been opened last Wednesday,
but the Idlest bid exceeded the bond
issue.
However, Oscar Ledford^ chairman
of the County Board of Commissioners,
called a meeting Monday night of com
munity and governmental leaders and
came up with a plan to finance the
difference.
Brjrant Construction Co. of Brevard
won the contract, Ledford said Tuesday.
Planned is a modern two-story
structure on the Franklin town square
adjacent to the present courthouse, which
has long been condemned by state
officials,
Ledford said construction would
begin in about three weeks and the job
will be done in a year.
