The Galax News was first started
in 1952 by Otto Summer’s daughter,
Ihxjf when she was still a high school
student in Highlands, She recognized
the need for a local publication to
help the tourists and summer residents
get acquainted with the Eighlands area
and also introduce them to the year-round
residents•
Her action grew out of the fact
that her father, then principal of the
Highlands School, had published a mimeo
graphed paper some years before in which
was published local news and ads as well
as Galax Theatre programs*
