Until that startling revlation, "Brother John" plays like a kind of mystery movie in which everyone in the small Alamaman tox-m in which Poitier was born and to which he has returned tries to fathom his baffling behavior and motives. Will Beer is good as the old doctor who eventually discovers the,true identity of Poitier.
