"IN COLD BLOOD"
Few, if any, crimes in modern times
have been subjected to so much meticulous
research frcm^every possible angle - his
torical, sociological, philosophical and
psychological as those of the murders
late in 19^9 of four members of the
Clutter family in their farm home near
Holcomb, Kansas. The one who undertook
the prodigious job of scolarship was
Truman Capote, who then proceeded to
record his findings in his book "In
Cold Blood," i\Tow writer-director
Richard Brooks has transferred it to the
screen in a film that is equally praise
worthy, It is Brooks* personal master
piece and one of the most brilliant
pictures of the past decade.
The film falls naturally into three
sections; the plotting, the crime by
the killers and relevant events lead
ing up to it: the flight of the
criminals aftenmrds and the marshalling
of the forces of the law to find them:
and their capture and final execution.
All three parts are notable not only
for the suspense created in the manner
of a thriller but for the details of
characterization and millieu."In Cold
