THE GALAX »JS AUGUST 12, 1971 PAGE 5 NISS RICHERT DEATH TOLD Mss Margereiet L. Richerb, 66, a neice of I'irs. Helen Edwards of Highlands, died Friday in iTuscogee, Okla. She was a registered nurse and served as a captain in the U.S. Nurses Corps dur ing World War II. At the time of her re tirement, she was working in the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Muscogee* Survivors include a brother, Joseph C. jftichert of Raleigh and another aunt, l-'Irs. Georgia Cochrane of Portland^, Ore, Graveside services were held at 2 p*m. Monday in Highlands I'&morial Park, with the Rev, Ray Barfield officiating. DR. SARGENT TO LECTURE This week's lecture at the l(Euseum of Natural History will be the final evening program of the season. The il lustrated talk^ ’’John and William Bartram^ Early American Plant Explorers | with Special Attention to the Southern Appa lachians", will be given by Dr, Ralph M, Sargent, Dr, Sargent,, who has main tained a summer home in Highlands for . many years, is a noted botanist and has traced the route of William Bartram through the Blue rddge, particularly here in Macon county. He has photograph ed the scenes and plants mentioned by Bartram and quotes what Bartram had to say about the places and plants in this area as he presents the pictures. Dr, Sargent, who is President of the Philadelphia Botanical Club, gave this illustrated talk at the Museum four years ago and has presented it to other groupsj among which are the Wildflower Pilgrimage in the Smokies, and Ford Forum in Dearborn, Mchiganjthe Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and at Duke Univer sity, Dr. Sargent’s illustrated lecture is being given for the benefit of the Iteeum and there will be a ^1.00 donation asked. The time is 8:30 P,M, on Wednes day, August 18, Also on August 18 at 9sOO A.M, there Td.ll be a botany hike up Satulah mountain led by iyir, C.H, Ekdahl. Persons going on this hike will meet at the iyfuseum and pool cars to drive to Satulah.
